TiCN — the step up when TiN isn't hard enough.
Adding carbon to the film pushes hardness roughly 80% above TiN, delivering 2–4× the tool life on demanding wear applications like injection molds, punches, drills, and forming dies.

Approximate properties — final spec is confirmed for every job during quote.
TiCN-coated end mills. Carbon in the film pushes hardness well above TiN for demanding wear on cutting tools, punches, and dies.
Harder film, longer life on abrasive wear.
TiCN builds on standard TiN by incorporating carbon during deposition. This carbo-nitride matrix delivers substantially higher hardness and lower friction, giving you superior mold release and noticeably longer run times in abrasive wear environments.
When TiN isn't cutting it on injection molds or stamping punches, TiCN is the natural upgrade. Its metallic-silver finish — the outer layer is TiC, not TiCN — makes shop-floor identification fast and foolproof next to standard gold TiN.
Running extreme heat at the cut edge? Consider AlTiN instead for its superior oxidation resistance.
Where TiCN pays off
- Injection moldsImproved release, less sticking, longer mold life.
- Punches & forming dies2–6× the hits between tool changes.
- Drills & tapsBetter wear resistance on abrasive workpieces.
